Sassafras Mountain is the highest point in the state of South Carolina, at an elevation of 3,554ft (1083m).  Sassafras Mountain is located in Pickens County, in the Northwestern part of the state, off of a windy mountain road. Northwestern South Carolina is home to small mountain ranges, and Sassafras Mountain is right on the border of North Carolina.
